Motivation is not a magical solution to all your problems.

It won’t guarantee you with promotion and it won’t stop you from failing a test.

A lot of people think a little motivation means success, it will fall into their lap but that isn’t how it works.

You see motivation isn’t the answer, it isn’t the endpoint, it’s where you start.

Think about your motivation is like a road trip. If you want motivation, you need to put some work into it because motivation takes hard work. When you’re going on a road trip, you need to find a direction where you’re going and make sure your car got enough fuel. You got to make sure your car is in good condition, check your tyres and the engines. The road trip that you planned to go, it’s going to take you a long time to get there, you might be stuck in traffic and your tyres might go wrong so you might have to get it fixed. You got to find a way how are you going to get there, you use the sat nav or Google map to get to your destination.
Finding motivation is like choosing where you want to go. Always important is to plan ahead for your journeys like looking on a map, finding the place where you want to go to and which road are you going to go on. Having motivation can be difficult because there are challenges and obstacles that make you want to give up, make you want to be turning around and not continue to work on your goals. But if you pick the right destination for the right reasons, you can power through any obstacles.
  • They don’t start the right way.
  • They don’t think enough about where they’re going.
  • Some people just pick a random destination with no clue why they chose it.
  • Even if they do make it somehow?
  • Motivating yourself the right way.

Choosing meaningful goals to persevere through failure. These simple tricks will help you follow a path toward your definition of lifelong success.

The tricks that help you stay motivated  

These are the 4 simple tricks that will make you feel motivated:

  3. The power of expectation
  4. Resurrecting motivation

I’m going to go through all the list about the 4 simple tricks that can help you stay motivated every day.

Trick number 1.

  • Own your goals: this is a trap that everyone falls into especially if they just finished university or college, you might have an idea about how your life plays out but is it yours? Is it what you want? Did someone else choose it for you?
For example, someone who wants to be a doctor. He did very well in school, got good grades and went to college to do A levels, went to university to study medicine and got the doctors degree. After he graduated from university and become a doctor, he realized that is not for him, it’s not what he really wanted to do but he enjoys helping people and saves people’s lives. After all that year of stress from being a doctor, he starts to think about what he can do to own his goals.
When he realizes that he’s building somebody’s dreams and achieving their goals to success, that’s when he started to think that he can do better and want to build his own dreams. Because in school they don’t teach you how to build your own dreams, they teach you how to build someone else’s dreams. They teach you how to get a job and sell your time for money. They don’t teach you to have the financial freedom to do the things you like while you’re making money at the same time.

He was trying to achieve his parent’s definition of success.

He adopted their goals as his own.

He chose a destination, and a good one, but he never knew why he wanted to get there. It didn’t take long for him to realize he was going the wrong way.

So what’s the point for this story? You’re surrounded by influences and expectations that everyone around you will have a vision of who you are.

No one knows better than you.  Don’t spend your life trying to live up to their expectations or run from their criticisms.

You shouldn’t choose a path because people say you should. Your motivation has to come from you.

I’m not telling you to ignore your family or the community but you have the perseverance to achieve your goals if they aren’t yours.

  1. Set aside a few minutes each day to own your goals.
  2. Consider where they come from.
  3. Remind yourself how and why you chose them.

Not only will you feel more pride in who you are, but you’ll also know you’re heading in the right direction.

Trick number 2.

  • Envision the details: have you ever thought about what it’s like to be successful? A lot of people think about being successful is having loads of money, having shiny objects like a nice mansion and nice expensive cars.
It’s nice to have those as your goals. These aren’t actually goals. They’re just things you think about for fun. You can’t figure out a plan to get there.
There is a difference between a goal and a dream so that’s why they’re separate. I often hear these terms used interchangeably, but there is a difference. Dreams are flexible and easy, they capture imaginary feelings and actions. You might dream about flying and teleport yourself but that doesn’t mean you’re going to. Some dreams inspire you to chase after something but your goals actually do the chasing.
Goals are concrete steps toward something you want. They have deadlines, cost and obstacles. They can and should exist in real life; yet, people don’t treat them that way. They act like their goals are crazy, impossible ideas, so they seem imaginary.

Imagine your taking an exam at college and you really wanted to pass your exam, how are you going to pass?

You study, revise and take a mock exam before the real exam comes.

You could dream about passing your exam but your goal is to pass your test. That means you will have to study very hard, make a few mistakes and keep revising until you get all the answers on the real exam.

Think about the feel of the pencil in your hand and the seat on your back. They envision themselves winning and then do everything they can to bring that vision to life.

But this trick isn’t limited to short-term goals.

  1. What is your daily routine look like?
  2. What do you spend most of your time with?
  3. What kind of furniture do you own?

These questions may sound pointless, but each one gives you direction and drive. You don’t have to know all the answers. You can turn vague ideas into real achievable goals.

Trick number 3.

  • The power of expectation: I mentioned before that other people’s expectations could lead you down the wrong path, they can make you lost and unfulfilled. But, if you already know where you’re headed, expectations can also work wonders.
  1. All too often I hear about someone hiding their dreams.
  2. Some stash away their goals on a secret to-do list.
  3. Others say they won’t show anyone until it’s 100% perfect. It’s never is.

If no one knows what you’re doing, you can get away with not doing it.

That way, you won’t want them to see you give up.

No one likes to admit to a loved one that they’ve failed.

Instead, you want to show up with a product and make them proud. Otherwise, you can lose motivation.

Some people are too shy to tell everyone about their goals because they’re too embarrassed to talk about their business.

Hiding your goals can hold you back, not make you want to carry on.

When you tell everyone that’ll listen, you sometimes assume an identity that isn’t yours.

Let’s say you try to write a book but you’re having a hard time trying to stay motivated so you decided to tell a bunch of people about it.

So why invest the time and effort into something that you already have?

People seem more interested in getting attention and respect than accomplishing their goals.

If you don’t want to tell everyone about your business, you can tell only one person you care about. Work your way up to build your confidence and then tell everyone.

Trick number 4.

  • Resurrecting motivation: I wish I can tell you “you’ll feel motivated all the time” but I can’t. Even if you maximize every trick on this list. You’re eventually will feel lazy and unproductive. No matter how ambitious you are, there’s just no avoiding these moments of weakness.

We all want to achieve our goals to success but let me tell you, it takes hard work and effort, you got to put a lot of effort into it until you get there.

A lot of people think motivating yourself is easy but it requires hard work. They expect things to be smooth and easy, but life obviously doesn’t work that way.

Every path you take will have failures and frustration. You know these obstacles are coming. Sure, you don’t know what or when or why but it will happen eventually. Whatever happened, happened, and you can’t change that. Every second is a chance to wipe the slate clean. Learn from your mistakes and try again.

You got to motivate yourself to get to your goals.

Nothings easy in life, everything is a responsibility, effort and hard work but you got to get over it.

Sometimes when a person is down or feels sad or is going through a certain negative aspect of life, the only little thing that can help is some motivation but self motivation is what I can call the best form of motivation that anyone can give themselves and this is why I really cherish this post filled with Greta words and especially tips to help me stay motivated.   4. Hey Gordon – Great post on motivation as it contains a lot of truth. What you wrote about living someone else’s dream is so true.  I feel that it is actually unhealthy.  Because you can never be fulfilled living a dream that isn’t yours.  Lots of parents live through their children vicariously by setting their dreams upon their children to accomplish.  I’m sure they mean well but it just doesn’t work for the child in the long run.  The best route is to pick our own realistic goals with a strategy that’s accurate and understand that it will take work and perseverance to achieve that goal.  Thanks!

  16. You’re quite right about the planning part, its important to take a little time to plan things out. 

    As an English-as-a-foreign-language teacher in Japan, I had very little time for planning, but when I did, the lesson would go much better. Then doing it in Australia under a different regime, there was a lot more time for planning. And as you say visualizing outcomes is one of the keys to success.

    I like how you pointed out the difference between goals and dreams. My first time at university was a washout. The second time around, I got the course criteria and assessment details, then made a calendar with large squares and marked in all the deadlines regarding prep and completion and made it so I would work on one project at a time, so that all but the last ones would be finished well before the deadline.

    You say that life is never smooth ain’t that right, always get an early start.

     Actually, I think that’s the biggest hurdle… starting.

  18. In today’s competitive work environment, our greatest untapped resource may be our own motivation. But what happens when you can’t find your motivation or you can’t stay motivated long enough to finish a project or even keep up with daily tasks? You need find your motivation,  but where? You find it within, because all motivation is self-motivation. What drives us to stay motivated is as individual as who we are, so you need to tailor a motivational that will resonate with you. The  more you know and understand yourself, the more effective your efforts will be. And the four motivational  tricks or tips to use  for yourself are Own Your Goals which is what so ever you are into or doing, let it be for yourself and  for your own benefits.  Another tips which Is  explained in this article is envision the details of  what you want and that is going in details to list  what you want, imagine having every single thing you wish to have, imagine living your dreams and if you do, you will want to work towards living your dream’s. Another tip is the power of expectations, let people around you know what you’re expecting and by so doing you  will want to work hard so as not to cut your expectation short and cut other people’s expectation  about you short.  And the last tip to be motivated is to always resurrect your motivation (never give up on your dreams).

  22. Now more than ever it’s important to actively make sure that you find ways to stay motivated towards your goals. A world without as many external motivators (like business networks, friends, schools & classes, etc) can make it hard to stay quite as focused and stay at the top of your game.
